Sustainability at West Coast Canyoning Adventures

At West Coast Canyoning Adventures, sustainability isn’t a side project—it’s woven into every step, rappel, and swim we take. As guides in some of British Columbia’s most pristine natural environments, we understand the responsibility that comes with sharing these places.

While we are proud of this commitment, we recognize sustainability as an ongoing journey—not a finish line. Our recent audit by Bridge Sustainability Inc. marked an important milestone in that journey, helping us reflect on where we’re doing well and where we can do better. The process was both rigorous and enlightening, guiding us to refine our practices, set clearer goals, and stay aligned with global sustainability standards. While we’re proud of the progress we’ve made, we remain committed to continuous improvement—so that every adventure we offer leaves a lighter footprint and a stronger connection to the natural world.

As we guide you through stunning canyons, our practices are designed to minimize environmental impact and maximize your connection with nature. From using eco-friendly gear to educating our adventurers about the local ecosystem, every aspect of your journey with us is infused with respect for the natural world. Join WCCA and together, let’s explore the wonders of the canyons while preserving their beauty for generations to come.

What We’re Doing Right

Eco-Friendly Gear
We’ve transitioned to more sustainable gear choices, minimizing waste and reducing our carbon footprint wherever possible.

Education for Conservation
Our guides share insights into local ecosystems, geology, and responsible recreation, empowering guests to become environmental stewards.

Community Engagement
We collaborate with local communities to promote conservation and sustainable tourism practices in the regions we explore.

Leave No Trace in Action
We strictly follow Leave No Trace principles, taking extra care to avoid disturbing fragile ecosystems or spreading invasive species.

Indigenous Partnerships
We work alongside local First Nations to protect culturally significant sites and provide employment opportunities in guiding and education.

Supporting First Responders
We offer complimentary canyoning trips to emergency responders and provide pro-bono technical rescue training to local SAR teams.

Solar-Powered Operations
Our adventure van uses solar energy to dry wetsuits and run equipment, reducing energy use and emissions.

Protecting Ecosystems
All gear is washed and sanitized with eco-friendly solutions between trips to prevent the spread of non-native species. Over the past few seasons, we’ve also removed more than 150 lbs of trash from canyon environments.

What We’re Working On

Reducing Single-Use Plastics
We’re exploring better solutions to eliminate remaining single-use plastics across our operations.

Lowering Carbon Emissions
We’re evaluating low-emission vehicle options and exploring carpool incentives to further reduce our carbon output.

Sustainable Supply Chain
We’re actively seeking partnerships with suppliers who share our values, ensuring sustainability is embedded at every level of our operation.

Join Us in Protecting These Places

Every canyoning trip with us is a chance to explore, connect, and protect. Whether you’re learning about mosses in a misty gorge or helping retrieve litter on the trail, you’re part of something bigger—a movement toward sustainable adventure.

Together, let’s ensure that the wild stays wild.
